Many of these site-specific projects solved marketing challenges for the client. They ranged from the need for more visibility, to bringing neighborhoods together, to giving a gift to the community for years of support, to showing the rich history of an area. More than just putting some art on a wall somewhere, each project involved: client contact, neighborhood and company research, designing, contract negotiation and acceptance, putting up scaffolding, wall preparation, design layout, painting (finally!), on-going documentation and celebration. Fishbone also helped the client work with the media to ensure extensive publicity. As artists, they thought of paint as liquid color, and have included pictures of the process in this gallery…this is often where the poetry is found. And all along, they made sure to interact on many levels with the local population, the real clients for the projects.
